Endless possibilities

The shallow waters off the coast of Mallorca are home to many species of fish. This is a wonderful place to go fishing with the kids or just to pass the time.

What you need

Nothing more than a rod between 2.50 and 3.50 metres and a reel between 3000-5000 with a 0.12 to 0.20 braid. In most places 60 grams of lead will do. The whole thing is rounded off with a two to four hook rig with hook sizes 14-8. Surf tackle can also be used here.

When is the best time?

As with many other types of fishing, morning and evening are the best times, but you can catch fish all day.

Bait

Bread, meat, worms, squid or fish can be used. Goat bream (Spanish sargo), for example, like to eat ham. Live prawns, available from larger tackle shops and special bait machines, work best.

Royal sea bream, many different types of perch, wrasse, mackerel and marble bream, to name but a few, can be caught in this way.
